"All right Cameron from here and today we're going to talk about some of the basics of suspension on a rear-wheel drive Volvo what the main components are where they are and what you should look out for. Here on the lift today we have a Volvo 242 so we'll talk about the main components on the front of it. First a lot of this is very much the same as you'll find on a Volvo 740 or a Volvo 940. As far as the front strut assemblies going and what the basic components are, even though they look a little different in those cars this should still give you a good idea of kind of where everything is and what it does. Looking also right here what you'll see is this, this is the sway bar end link bolts here to the control arm. This goes up and attach this to the sway bar right here which then goes across. Sway bars up you should be pretty familiar with on your car because it's IPD's flagship product and we've got huge upgrades for these that make the car handle ten times better and make it a whole new car. That's kind about it for the front it's a pretty basic suspension system there's just the control arm, ball joint, strut assembly, sway bar, and end link and the associated small pieces like control arm bushings that are here and here. Looking from the other side of the rear end of the car to show you some of the other components. We've just got a couple more pieces that complete the rear suspension system. This one is obviously the coil spring it is mounted on the back of the trailing arm here. If we follow that up we're going to see what is called the Panhard bar what its job basically is to locate the car over the rear axle. If you watch it here it bolts through the chassis of the car follow it down this way and it connects to a bracket on this side on the actual rear end. So, it's what is suspending it left to right and holding the car balancing it left to right over the rear end of the car. That's about it for the suspension very simple setup on these Volvo 740s and Volvo 940s are a little bit different but the basics are pretty much the same they use the same kind of components and hopefully, this helps you identify what's under your car you know what you're looking at any education is always going to help you maintain your car better. OK, after pouring through much of the other thread, I felt I spent so much time looking at setups that weren't relevant to what I was looking to do...which is stay on stock suspension. So this thread is dedicated to Aftermarket wheels on stock suspension. *List wheel make and model with offset and width as well as tire make/model/size. *Try to take pics showing "poke." That means refrain from turning the front wheels for the pics. Keep 'em pointed straight and try to get some shots down the side of the car that will help others make a decision. *If you've rolled, pulled fenders and/or used the slotted strut mounts for more tire/fender clearance that is ok, just let us know when you post your setup.

Civics of your vintage need to be lowered about 2.5-3" with stock sized tires before you remove all wheel gap. This is too low for stock length shocks. Suspension, but don't just slap on some lowering springs on stock stocks; invest the money and get both. The wheel gap left after putting 19's on my Z is even-spaced all around. Straight from the factory, the wheel gap on a Z is considerably less than most cars out there. Even compared to a handful of high-dollar supercars, the Z's gap is less. I've done the drop thing in the past, but I just can't justify it as much with the Z. Sure, it may look a little better dropped, but I don't think it looks bad at all with the factory ride height (with or without aftermarket wheels). damn that looks sweet! definitely dont need to lower anymore. I bought my wheels like almost two years ago, on the stock suspension, it made me wanna cry....look how horrible it looks, also it didnt help I bought the wrong size tires for the rear, a stretched 275/30, my 285/35's are the perfect size now, but even if I had them on stock suspension, its gross looking. these first two pics are without my Tein Stechs(the car looks like a damn truck its so high), the third is the same tires with the Teins, it looked alot better but the tire being the wrong size still bothered me, finally the last pics are Teins + 235/35 and 285/35 tires...its as close to perfect as I am going to get, any lower I would have to shave the fender wall and get some suspension, but I am happy where it sits. It doesnt look bad at all, but the nice thing about the Teins and some other springs (not all, because some just slam the car to the ground) was it was less then an inchdrop and gave it a more aggressive stance, body roll really wasnt an issue on the Z stock, but with some good springs it feels even more solid, I'd recommend them to you. Beleive me it was bad without springs, here is a good pic of the horrid gap on stock suspension... I doubt I will find the exact pictures/config I'm looking for. It's going to be hard, if not impossible, to find pics of a G37x coupe on stock suspension with 20x8.5 wheels with 245/35/20 tires all around. I've been looking for weeks on the entire internet.

The wheelchair application seems to run straight into the eternal problem with sprung wheels. Without dampers, they bounce badly, as sometimes seen in tractors fitted with buckets on a bad road. With dampers, they have very high rolling resistance. I tire needs enough flex to meet the ground, but any further suspension should be on the axle. Lardo January 30, 2018 06:00 PM
The new company has financial backing from the RAD BioMed Accelerator group and is in collaboration with the Ziv-Av Engineering group. They are initially designing these wheels for wheelchairs, city bicycles and aircraft landing gear but the company says the technology would be used for other wheeled vehicles.
“Selective suspension is the key to the mechanism because constant suspension creates loss of energy, making pushing more strenuous. Only when encountering an object does the suspension system activate, making the inside of the wheel, the hub, move and absorb most of the shock instead of the wheelchair user’s body,” she said.
