The big limitation that I can see, is that if there is any deflection when the rider gets on the bike, that means that the rider is essentially pedaling uphill all the time (Because he has to compress the springs as he moves forward). A shock absorbing wheel has its limitations. For starters, special rims would have to pair with these spoke-shocks. Plus, the high cost of shock absorbers suggests this wheelset would be extremely expensive, and the weight of the wheel would, presumably, be much heavier than traditional wheels.

My wheels are staggered, TSW Mugello 20" wheels, no spacers, and am running Toyo Proxes TS tires, 245-35z fronts and 285-30z rears. Not sure how they would be for an X. Hope the info helps!
