The University of Texas at Austin Center for Electromechanics (UT-CEM) has conducted a set of simulations and full-scale experiments to determine suitable shock load design requirements for in-hub (wheel) propulsion motors for hybrid and all-electric combat vehicles. The characterization of these design parameters is required due to recent advancements in suspension technology that have made it feasible to greatly increase the tempo of battle. These suspension technologies allow vehicles to traverse off-road terrains with large rms values at greater speeds. As a result, design improvements for survivability of in-hub motors must be considered. Defining the design requirements for the improved survivability of in-hub motors is the driving factor for this research.

With any wheels there is always a little trepidation about hitting larger more inanimate objects but with Sam goading me on I started to aim for rocks, ruts and tree roots (did I mention we were riding off road!!!) and in every instance the wheels soaked up the impact, leaving me free to ride the bike without worry of knackered rims, aching arms or even getting up out of the saddle to soak up the impact – you can just let the wheels do the work.

Cases to consider: 1: Idle - the spring should be able to carry the rider with no deflection, other wise if u lowered the spring from the beginning making the ground to hub distance smaller than the horizontal radius, you might experience lifting. but if it can support i believe its good

As we all know, this pandemic has made just getting bicycle parts an exhausting effort, and whole trikes a nightmare! So when this opportunity arose, I jumped in the air, waving my hand, yelling “Yes!”
The big limitation that I can see, is that if there is any deflection when the rider gets on the bike, that means that the rider is essentially pedaling uphill all the time (Because he has to compress the springs as he moves forward). they sent me another one with out having to return the first one and the tire on the second one is also bent. now I am waiting for a refund while I have 2 broken bikes. I am a police officer and bought this bike to train and exercise for bike patrol. Used the bike for the first time yesterday and it broke a few hours into training with maybe 6 miles on it. Front fork seals were in poor condition and leaked fluid right from the start. Front brake cable came loose during some braking drills. Finally the back gear system snapped and locked up the back tire almost causing me to crash. I know the is not a $2,000 or $3,000 dollar bike, but for almost $500, it should be a much better built bike then it was. Very disappointing. When I picked up the package, I was impressed at the condition of the box. There were no smashed corners or gashes. Upon opening the box, I was happy to see such efficient packing, padding and securing of items so nothing rubbed together. The bike arrived with no scratch whatsoever on it! Cardiff Triathlon

The wheelchair application seems to run straight into the eternal problem with sprung wheels. Without dampers, they bounce badly, as sometimes seen in tractors fitted with buckets on a bad road.
