They won a £24,000 Innovate UK grant in 2013 that helped them to develop the loopwheel for wheelchairs. A further £240,000 grant in 2017 allowed them to work with 2 companies, Strategic Simulation and Analysis (SSA) and Composite Braiding, to further develop the loopwheel to go faster and for use off road and on rough terrain.

So how does it work? Well, a suspension fork (spoke suspension) only works on one plane. The Loopwheels on the other hand, provide what Loopwheels call, “tangential suspension.” Basically, they work in every direction, according to Loopwheels.com. So, they respond “to a force hit head-on in the same way as they do to a force from above or below.” This gives riders a smooth ride, instead of the lumpy, vibrating ride they are used to.

There are a lot of good points that have been made in this thread. I think a big factor in your decision will be really the road conditions in your area. Lots of changes in slopes that cause you to bottom out would not be a good thing for a lowered vehicle. The cars I have seen here look quite good, mostly because they have either 19s or dubs on them. Much like their wheelchair design has made it easier and more comfortable for users to get around in an urban environment, SoftWheel hopes the Fluent wheel can do the same thing for cyclists. The way they describe how the wheel absorbs shocks claims that they are especially effective at abrupt sharp edge obstacles like riding up and down stairs. Since the rim can variably move in the direction of each impact (as opposed to a typical fork which can only telescope up and down, or a rear suspension setup which is confined to the axle path determined by its layout), it is better suited to the wide range of actual impacts your normally encounter.

If you have a folding commuter bike like a Dahon Mu Uno, which doesn’t come with its own suspension system, then you neeed to take a look at Loopwheels. You can adjust the suspension settings to make them ridged, and you can use vertically oriented suspensions to prevent side wobble as if it was on rails. Wheels lack any form of propulsion on their own. They also lack any form of innate rotation ability. They're just cylindrical objects, exactly as they are in the real world (try welding a wheel directly to something sometime and see how well it spins). You need to provide an axle to them, and propulsion should you require it as well.
Have you ever had an oversized truck pass you and your vehicle sways from side to side? This is a sign of worn or weak shocks and struts. Weak, worn, or bad shocks and struts can cause very poor vehicle handling issues and ride comfort problems. This is because worn shocks and struts have lost the internal pressure and ability to keep applied pressure downward. This can cause excessive bounce and roll when hitting bumps or potholes, which can also lead to premature tire wear.
Design concern: Compressing the suspension changes the center of the wheel. When the wheel is also rolling this means there needs to be a ‘handoff’ between the three struts. The spokes on a standard spoked wheel hold it in tension. If the spokes lose tension, they start to break and the rim will buckle. A Loopwheel is not held in tension by its springs therefore the rim is strong, double-walled, and less likely to suffer from buckling or fracture at the rim.
But the negatives are pretty significant, especially in and around Boston, where our roads are rapidly deteriorating, and potholes are a regular occurrence.

How is that ? Do the jacks being driven into the ground by the weight of the chassis slide ? Does your table, grill, chairs, slide down the site ? Do you have brakes in them ? I did rear brake jobs on large trucks, when I jacked them up, they stayed right where I parked them.
Loopwheels give you a smoother ride. They are more comfortable than standard wheels: the carbon springs absorb tiring vibration, as well as bumps and shocks. They’re designed for everyday use and are strong and durable. They don’t run as true as a spoked wheel, and you’ll notice more sideways movement, especially in the Loopwheels Classic, but they’re a lot more comfortable.

Over the winter of 2014-15, we’ve been developing and trialling our first 20 inch loopwheels designed especially for recumbent trikes. The springs are designed to cope with fast cornering and the particular forces of side-axles. We’re really happy with the results. The wheelchair application seems to run straight into the eternal problem with sprung wheels. Without dampers, they bounce badly, as sometimes seen in tractors fitted with buckets on a bad road.
