Specially-designed connectors attach the springs to the hub and rim. The three loops in each wheel work together as a self-correcting system. @ Grunchy: Very good question regarding the un-sprung weight. Due to the internal suspension, only about a 1/3 of the total weight of the wheel is un-sprung weight, actually lowering the weight that is 'seen' by the axle.
