This looks dodgy. As per above – lateral stiffness? You have what looks like three contact points spot welded to the rim. I like my rims to stay somewhat connected to the hubs. These look like they have potential for rather catastrophic failure. Bob McNaughton on April 14th, 2013 - 11:06pm
Each wheel reportedly weighs about 300 grams (10.5 oz) more than a comparable spoked wheel.

In deep sand and mud conditions, TRX uses a 45/55 initial torque split and calibrates both throttle management and torque distribution to mitigate wheel slip and improve traction.
In fact, this varied terrain is one of the factors contributing to wheelchair discomfort and inefficiency. A wheel designed for the smooth floor inside a house or a public building is completely inappropriate for traveling on a rocky field or bumpy road.

The fact that each shock is individually adjusted and tuned makes me wonder how difficult it would be to get them synced and the negative effects of them being out of whack with one another. Colin M on May 20th, 2016 - 10:53am nightfend on May 20th, 2016 - 10:59am

Pearce is now raising production funds for his Loopwheels, on Kickstarter. A pledge of £195 (US$297) will get you a front wheel (which can be used with a conventional rear wheel), while £420 ($640) will get you a front and rear set – when and if the funding goal is met. A 26-inch model for mountain bikes is also in the works. It's unclear at this point whether you'd lose any forward motion energy due to torque flex, but that can be tuned out of the system if required in any case. It's also unclear how much a pair of wheelchair-sized ASWs would cost at this point. We assume they're not cheap compared to a regular rim and tire setup. Here's some annoyingly infomercial-style video comparing regular wheelchair wheels to an ASW setup over curbs and grassy, uneven terrain.
